Michelle Matheson has devoted her entire professional career helping organizations and non-profits reach their potential. A family therapist by education, she altered her career path and spent the last 12 years as a small business owner consulting on fundraising and development for small non-profits to larger business organizations.
Currently, Michelle works for the Pierce County Chamber of Commerce helping the organization realize its mission of ensuring our small business community can thrive in the region. In addition, Michelle is a graduate of the Pierce County Leadership Academy sponsored by the chamber and Pacific Lutheran University.
As a mom with two young boys in Gig Harbor schools, Michelle has been focused on improving the Gig Harbor community for our young families. As a soccer mom, she saw how substantially disadvantaged our region was for organized athletic activities, so she worked to unite existing groups to bring more opportunity to Gig Harbor. Under Michelle’s positive leadership, she united families who are passionate about sports and community leaders alike in a community coalition focused on working together to plan, build, and fund the Gig Harbor Sports Complex.
Michelle Matheson is running for Gig Harbor City Council District 5 to make sure that the Council is focused on good-decision making for the benefit of the community, now and in the future. As our region and city struggle with growth and all the challenges it presents, she believes strongly that the City Council must make deliberate, data based decisions for the benefit of the community. The planning and dedication she put into the new sports complex demonstrates her balanced leadership system and focus on results that the public expects. Michelle will bring a fresh voice, a new perspective and new level of youth, energy and vigor to the City Council that desperately needs to learn how to work together for the common good and a prosperous future.
